A Snowy Ullswater Paddle

We always think that we are lucky to live where we do but with every season you get a different view and a different sense of awe! With still alot of snow on the ground the mountain bikes were not getting much use! So we decided to make the most of the calm sunny weather and head for Ullswater with the sea kayak. It is only 30mins down the road so we decided to make it afternoon for the golden sunlight!

Getting the boat off always fun!

Great views down the lake

We launched a few miles down the lake from Glenridding. There are numerous laybys to launch from if you want to avoid the extortionate car parking fees of the National Trust (we are members). We  crunched our way through the ice to the waters edge and launched. We paddled our way up to Patterdale and navigated our way through some of the islands along the way.

The views were really stunning and we paddled aimlessly taking in the best that the lake had to offer. Surprisingly we did not see anyone! The sun was soon dropping behind the fells and the water on our buoyancy aids started to freeze! It was time to head back. Body temperatures were dropping and ice was forming on everything as we carried the boat to the van. It was a race to get changed and prevent toes and fingers breaking off!

A very cold H
The paddle has been totally worth the effort and the cold as the views were simply stunning! The snow really was making this winter one to remember!
