Sea Kayaking Knoydart

It was that time of year where Easter and Scotland come calling! This year we had decided to turn it into our annual sea kayaking trip. The aim was to paddle into Knoydart via Loch Nevis amongst snow capped mountains! Staying at a campsite with a spectacular view of Rum and Eigg it was not difficult to predict that today was going to be a good one! Kit was packed and anticipation was high as we headed down the coast to the launch site of Mallaig. We had a group of three paddling a double and single sea kayak a piece. Getting them off the roof of the motorhome was always a challenge but made easier by Dad's innovative system!

It was not long before we were floating in Mallaig harbour on water that resembled glass! With cameras at the ready and the stove packed for the numerous tea stops we were ready to depart leaving Mum and Harry (the dog) behind.

The first stop was on the North side of Loch Nevis after a few island hops. The weather and conditions were stunning and the view opened up to reveal the snow capped mountains of the Knoydart peninsula.

Award winning photo and its not difficult to see why
Approaching the beach it was clear that it would be up to the usual high standard of the West Cost with it's golden sand and secluded feel. Out came the pocket rocket and tea making stuff to have the traditional tea stop !

Traditional Tea Stop

After the tea stop it was time to pack up and head for Inverie for a drink at the pub! The weather was still holding and news on the radio from the coast guard was for winds to pick up later on so we were fine for the time being! Loch Nevis is famous for strong winds that can pick up at anytime!

Checking out the Madonna
Passing the madonna before we arrived at Inverie was awe inspiring and a great opportunity to frame it with the snow capped mountains. We were at this point feeling as though we did not ever want to leave! It was soon time to approach the beach at Inverie choosing the best place to land on the rocky beach.

Approaching Inverie
We could not resist sitting outside the local pub to sample the best local coke! Knoydart is only accessible by boat and it was strange to see cars driving the one short section of road on the peninsula.
Check out the hat!

As the wind was increasing and we were facing a head wind home we decided to make tracks! Hugging the coast we made our way out of Loch Nevis leaving behind great views and memories! We knew this would not be the last visit!

Dad saying farewell to Madonna
As we made our way back to Mallaig we battled through a force 3 and arrived just in time for another cuppa at the motorhome. Back at the campsite we were spoilt with yet more amazing views and enthusiasm to get the map out to plan the next trip !
