Ben More

March 2009

It was a quick departure from work on a Friday afternoon and a trip up to the Trossachs. We stayed at Immervoulin campsite, the hosts were so friendly and the campsite a nice place to stay. We studied the maps and used the cicerone guide of the Munros volume 1. Having used this book for a few walks now we can totally recommend it for its original route choice and accurate timings.

Parking was just down from Ben More farm. As you can see from the picture it was not hard to find the path! (to start with)

The path to Ben More

The walk down the valley was a gentle introduction to the ascent that followed. The cloud was completely down on the mountain and with no path in sight it was time to pick a gap in the crags and climb! After a steep ascent we ended up on Stob Binnein the peak next to Ben More. The two dominate the skyline when driving into Crianlarich.

Ascending Ben More

After a quick bite to eat it was down to go up again onto Ben More. The path was clear but in low cloud navigation was a bit of a problem and a small detour and check of the altimeter turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The cloud began to lift and what a view!

A great walk with a variety of different perspectives on the Scottish hills!
